This is a series of articles dedicated to earth based spiritual practices, aimed for people that are healers, or are working with high frequency energies to reconnect was the earth, nature, and thus grounding themselves to the cycles that mother earth goes through the year, hoping these practices can assist them in balancing out the sometimes taxing high vibrational work they’re engaged with, with the calm energies of nature observance.
In the Neopagan spiritual circles, the holiday based on the Neopagan Wheel of the Year called Beltane, is observed on May 1st each year.

Beltane is the 4th holiday of the Neopagan Wheel of the Year. It is between Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It is the gateway from winter to summer.
On this day, you can attune to the energies of spring manifested in its fullest. These energies around you are sensual, fertile, enlivening, and full of potential.
Beltane is the 4th holiday of the Neopagan Wheel of the Year.
In this article, we are going to explore the meaning of Beltane, and how to celebrate and honor the day to assist you in bringing its themes mentioned above in your own self and everyday life.
So, let’s begin.
Why Beltane Holds Spiritual Power for Modern Seekers
Beltane as a Seasonal Portal of Awakening
Beltane, as discussed above, is placed between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, a threshold, where we step from winter into the summer for good.
You can feel the “blossoming” of spring all around you. The ground is ready to receive seeds, the animals are ready for mating, and there’s the celebration of life happening everywhere you look.
Beltane, as discussed above, is placed between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, a threshold, where we step from winter into the summer for good.
It is also a point in time where you can open up to the maturity of your own self that has grown in being ready to bring forth whatever your heart wishes. And as the days grow longer, we are called to let our spirit shine a bit brighter, too.
Embracing the Sacred Union Within and Without
Beltane is also associated with the merging of the male and female archetypes in Sacred Union.
For me, this heralds a time of contemplating on the idea of merging the polarities within me, especially the light and the dark parts of myself.
Beyond the conscious mind and whatever society deems appropriate for expressing lies a shadow self that is within all of us, where everything that society does not want us to show forth has been buried. This, for me, is a substantial source of struggle, a polarity that needs to be addressed.
Beltane is also associated with the merging of the male and female archetypes in Sacred Union.
Now is the time to reclaim those parts of us we had to hide from others out of shame and let them come forth from the darkness of the unconscious mind to the light of the conscious and join in sacred union, because they are the most important parts of ourselves that makes us unique.
There’s also the idea around the fact that each one of us possesses both masculine and feminine energies that transcend gender.
The masculine fiery side of us connected with the left side of our brain (associated with logic, and common sense), needs to unite with the feminine parts of ourself connected with the right side of our brains (the seat of intuition and creativity). This union gives birth to a personality that is more whole and balanced.
Joy, Embodiment, and the Dance of Becoming
Beltane extends an invitation for us to embrace the joy that can be seen all around us in the face of nature.
Joy, for me, is a very high vibrational emotional state, which I like to express in various ways. It can be through creativity, dancing, or conscious walks in nature, astounded by the beauty that surrounds me.
Beltane extends an invitation for us to embrace the joy that can be seen all around us in the face of nature.
You can too notice this part of you, the childlike wonder that is usually buried deep within us and asks for our attention. This part of you is the source of your joy.
By embracing joy you allow yourself to let go (at least for a day) of the worries, the stress and the demands of life and honor the fact that you are alive and appreciate any gifts that the spirit of nature has in store for you.
5 Spiritually Enriching Ways to Celebrate Beltane with Intention and Energy Alignment
What follows are some practices that will help you set your intention to connect with the ideas that I discussed above around some themes surrounding Beltane, to fully embrace the spirit of the day.
This is a festival where you are asked to join once again with the rhythms of nature, the abundance of life, and the joy of being alive.
So, here are five ways to honor Beltane, in a meaningful and simple manner that you enjoy on your own or with the company of like-minded people.
- Connect with the Earth Through a Sacred Nature Walk and Flower Gathering
- Build a High-Vibration Beltane Altar with Crystals and Pressed Floral Energy
- Weave a Mini Maypole to Embody Creative Life Force Energy
- Share a Beltane-Inspired Herbal Tea and Solar Picnic for Nourishment and Joy
- Close the Day with a Firelight Ritual for Cleansing and Inner Radiance
1. Connect with the Earth Through a Sacred Nature Walk and Flower Gathering
During Beltane, the weather is just right for me (since I live in the northern hemisphere) to go outside and take intentional walks in order for me to engage in the practice of gathering flowers.
These flowers represent not only the fertility of nature but also her beauty and can be used in many ways such as in rituals, healing, or to just decorate your space.
If you’re interested in approaching this flower gathering, with the intention of applying it in a ritual, I would suggest that before Beltane arrives, to just do some research and see which wildflowers are native to your land. Then become accustomed to their use, energetic properties, and also the lore that might surround them.

Even though intuition is your best tool to acquire this sacred “tools”, it is good to balance the left side and the right side of your brain, by combining knowledge and reason acquired through research with your intuition so you can make the best choices for gathering the right flowers for your goals.
2. Build a High-Vibration Beltane Altar with Crystals and Pressed Floral Energy
I’ve been pressing flowers onto pages to dry from a young age when I learned this technique at school. This is a good way to preserve flowers and their essence long after you have picked them.
A wonderful way to use them is to place them on an altar dedicated to the day, where you can accompany them with crystals and candles.

The colors that are appropriate for the day are deep greens, and yellows/oranges, with the green representing the lush of nature, and yellow/orange the warmth of the sun.
This altar acts as the focal point, an anchoring point for the energies of Beltane, where you can spend some time in meditation and appreciate the abundance that surrounds the themes of this holiday.
3. Weave a Mini Maypole to Embody Creative Life Force Energy
There’s a custom in northern Europe, that on this day that is also called Mayday, young men and women are dancing around what is called a maypole erected at the center of a town square, holding ribbons of white and red attached to the top of the pole and as they dance, they weave these ribbons all across the pole and then unwind them symbolizing the union between the masculine and feminine forces.

You can imitate this custom by creating a mini maypole, which in energetic terms symbolizes the spine and the energetic channel that runs through it, and the two channels that weave themselves around this center channel, one for the masculine energy and one for the feminine energy.
These complementary channels passing through and meet at each chakra from the base chakra to the third eye where they meet in union in the crown chakra.
4. Share a Beltane-Inspired Herbal Tea and Solar Picnic for Nourishment and Joy
As with each holiday placed on the Wheel of the Year, it is not uncommon for me to prepare a feast for my loved ones to celebrate the day.
Instead of enjoying the feast indoors, though, because of the warmer weather, you can take it outside for a solar picnic. Also, you can take with you various tea mixtures, with herbs that are appropriate for the day, symbolizing the warmth of the sun, and thus can uplift your spirit.
As with each holiday placed on the Wheel of the Year, it is not uncommon for me to prepare a feast for my loved ones to celebrate the day.
Again, follow your intuition on which food or herbal teas you can prepare to take with you on this beautiful spring day on your solar picnic.
5. Close the Day with a Firelight Ritual for Cleansing and Inner Radiance
As Beltane ends, I like to end the day with a small firelight ritual.
You need little to practice this ritual. For me, I like to place several candles on a metal plate in front of my Beltane altar, and after lighting them, switch off any other light sources. After centering myself I will make sweeping motions above the flames pulling in the energy of light all around my aura, as if I’m pushing a sort of smoke, or steam towards me, visualizing it settling on my energy field from head to toe.
As Beltane ends, I like to end the day with a small firelight ritual.
This is a great way to bless yourself and prepare for the months of summer to come.
Conclusion
Beltane is the time of year, where the abundance of life around you is truly present, and spring is in its fullest manifestation.
From gathering flowers to practicing rituals that invigorate the elements of joy, presence and sacred union, Beltane is that time where you can truly embrace what it means to be alive and walking on this earth.
So, relax, kickback and just rest in the embrace of vitality that is all around you during this day.
Till next time, take care.
