It is important for you to understand that reconnecting with your intuition is not a new skill that you have to develop or gain, rather than a process of discovering your innate ability to navigate the world by being divinely guided.

Strengthening your intuition is a process akin to clearing the mirror that is your soul cluttered by social conditioning, fear, and distrust to your true self.

Sharpening Your Inner Discernment

One thing that I had to learn over the years is on how to distinguish the quiet soft voice of my inner wisdom from my loud fear-based ego-mind.

Your ego-mind is not to be blamed though but understood. One of its functions is to protect you from the unknown and connecting to your intuitive nudges, has to do with trusting the unknown which triggers fear.

In order to override your fear for the unknown and for your intuition to reach you is to understand the nature of fear, which when expressed is loud and pushy. Your intuition is softly spoken and often comes as subtle nudges.

Embracing a Non-Judgmental Mindset for Inner Listening

Another hurdle to overcome in your process of letting your inner wisdom come through is your quick impulse to dismiss anything that makes little sense. Being dismissive and judgmental towards your intuitive hits, creates resistance and adds heaviness to your energy field that’s blocking your inner senses, your true guidance.

So, it is of paramount importance for you to cultivate a non-judgmental attitude towards things that come up and do not possess reason, but when followed through make sense in the long run.

  1. Know What Your Voice Feels Like
  2. Stop Judging What Comes Through You
  3. Trust Your Intuitive Voice Unconditionally

But because this is a journey, I would like to suggest that you be patient with yourself and supportive, because impatience can have an adverse effect to what you’re trying to accomplish rather than a productive one.

1. Know What Your Voice Feels Like

I distinguished above between how your intuition cultivates trust to the universal guidance and how your ego-mind fears the unknown, which is the realm where your intuition dwells.

One way that you could start discerning this difference is by observing how you feel when you’re facing a decision. If you experience an expansion and lightness in your energy and emotions, that means that you’re on the right track to follow through whatever you have decided to do. If you start to feel uneasiness, or a knot in your stomach that is a sign that you should reassess the situation before moving forward.

2. Stop Judging What Comes Through You

Being judgmental towards your natural inner knowingness is a product of social conditioning not to trust the unknown, and to heavily rely on logic.

If you want to build the relationship with your intuition, find a way to deconstruct any limiting beliefs that prevents you from listening your inner guidance.

Working with your limiting beliefs is not that hard. You can cultivate the habit of recording Any thought that comes into your mind when you’re about to follow an intuitive hint, thought that will try to diminish the importance of the hint, or dismiss it as irrational and silly. Then, you can sit down with these thoughts you have recorded (either using your phone or a small notebook that you can easily carry around) and try to use reason against them.

Ask yourself “what am I afraid will happen if I follow my intuition?”. By confronting these dismiss thoughts in this way, you will find a ton of fears, or limiting beliefs you held in terms of the nature of intuition and by acknowledging these beliefs, you will make the first steps relieving yourself from the need to dismiss the power of your inner knowingness.

3. Trust Your Intuitive Voice Unconditionally

I would like to add one more tool for you to use to start trusting your intuition.

Because for many people it is scary to follow their intuition for the reasons I explained above, if you’re one of them (and I believe this is one of the reasons that you’re reading this article) start small. Try to follow your intuition in the beginning when it involves low risk decision making. This will add a sense of play to the entire journey of applying your inner wisdom to your life.

Neon light in the shape of an ear.

Also, keeping a journal off incidences where you were brave enough to follow your intuition and the positive outcome that came from trusting it, will be a great asset for you to train your mind to trust your inner wisdom based on the facts that you will present to it through the above journaling practice.

Conclusion

To sum up, becoming familiar with your intuition has to do with returning to your own innate ability to discern life beyond reason and logic. Even though the latter are important, they cannot see the bigger picture that your intuition can sense and provide you with information about it.

In this article we explored ways to cultivate a non-judgmental stance towards intuition, how to trust your inner knowingness by learning how to ease yourself from doubt, and how to distinguish between your intuition from your fear-based ego-mind.

I hope I have provided you with enough material to explore your intuition, and how to become confident that your inner wisdom will also guide you in supporting this exploration in rebuilding a relationship with it.
